Superficial gastritis and atrophic gastritis are the most common chronic gastritis.

Superficial gastritis: The incidence is high, often caused by repeated attacks of acute gastritis, gastric mucosal lesions for a long time. Therefore, it is related to dietary factors, such as long-term drinking of spirits, strong tea, coffee, excessive pepper and other condiments, eating too salty, too acid, too rough and so on. Lack of protein and B vitamins is also the cause of disease. Most of the symptoms were vomiting, acid reflux, heartburn and abdominal distension. The course of superficial gastritis is slow. It can be cured after reasonable treatment. If it does not heal repeatedly, it will evolve into atrophic gastritis.

Atrophic gastritis: atrophy of gastric glands, thinning of mucosa, low secretory function of stomach, affecting gastric digestive function, symptoms are mostly epigastric fullness, dyspepsia, loss of appetite, anemia, emaciation. When the regeneration process of local tissues is dominant, polyps may occur, or even transform into gastric cancer.

The principles of dietary therapy for chronic gastritis can be divided into the following five points, which are often used in clinical teaching and dietary guidance for patients:

1. Chew slowly, which is very important to minimize the burden on the stomach and exert the ability of saliva digestion and sterilization.

2. Use a mild diet to remove the factors that cause adverse irritation to gastric mucosa and create conditions for gastric mucosal repair. Food should be fine, crushed, soft and rotten.  Steaming, boiling, stewing and stewing are the choices of cooking methods.

3. A small amount of multi-meals, regular diet, do not eat a full meal, reduce the burden on the stomach. Increase daily meals.

4. Increase nutrition, eat more high-cost protein and vitamin-rich food, anemia patients eat more iron-rich animal viscera, lean meat, eggs, dark vegetables and fruits.

5. Choose suitable food. When superficial gastritis has excessive gastric acid secretion, milk, soybean milk, toast or steamed bread with alkali can be used to neutralize gastric acid. Fast eating thick broth, fried food, strong spices such as pepper, onion, curry, pepper, mustard, coffee, etc. When the gastric acid of atrophic gastritis is low, it can properly increase thick broth, chicken soup, sour fruit and fruit juice to stimulate gastric juice secretion and help digestion. Porridge is not suitable for meals.

When complicated with enteritis, the diet can not cause flatulence of food containing more crude fibers, beans, hard vegetables and fruits.
